The Short Answer
If you need one or two brands and can buy invoices in your own company's name, it is better to get ungated yourself: the account is yours from the start. If you need many brands, gated categories or programs like Hazmat soon, it is better to buy an ungated Amazon account that already lists them, where one is in stock, checked live before you pay.
Gated means Amazon wants its approval before you can list a brand, a category or a product. Ungated means the account can list it today. Apply to sell is the button Amazon shows on a gated product: approval is possible, but you have to apply first.
We have sold 1,700+ aged Amazon, Walmart and eBay seller accounts, and we also run ungating on accounts our clients already own. That third route is covered in is there an ungating service for my Amazon account?

What Does Getting Ungated Actually Involve?
Getting ungated means applying in Seller Central for each gated brand or category you want, with purchase invoices dated within 180 days, clear product photos and, where needed, brand authorization letters, safety certifications or liability insurance. Amazon's page says to wait 2 to 7 business days for review, and it does not accept applications for everything.
That last part is in Amazon's own Selling Applications FAQ: "However, we may not accept applications for every product we place selling restrictions on."
One product can also need more than one approval. Amazon's example on its approval requirements page is Nike shoes: a Shoes category approval and a Nike brand approval. The FAQ puts it plainly:
"Some products may have overlapping selling restrictions that will require you to submit separate applications to become approved to sell a single product."
The same approval requirements page lists common restricted categories:
- Grocery and gourmet foods
- Luggage and travel accessories
- Medical devices and accessories
- Shoes, handbags and sunglasses
Fine jewelry is gated too. Amazon's Jewelry page says: "Only approved sellers can sell Fine Jewelry on Amazon."
And if Amazon answers "Your account does not qualify", its page says the decision cannot be appealed and Selling Partner Support cannot give more details.

The review time is Amazon's number for one application. It is not the time to get a brand open. In our own ungating work we tell clients to plan on one month per brand; it is often faster, but a first decline is normal. Amazon sometimes asks for identity verification or a call before it looks at the application at all. More on that in how long Amazon ungating takes.
What Do You Get When You Buy an Ungated Amazon Account?
You get an aged seller account with its own sales history, feedback and the brands and categories already open on it, shown to you live on a screen share before you pay. Every account we sell also comes with three apply-to-sell brands we apply for on your behalf, each named in your Deal Agreement.
The Deal Agreement is the contract you sign before any money moves. It locks the account, the payment terms, the timeline, every brand we promised and the replacement and refund terms.
An aged account is already ungated, often for dozens of brands, from its own history. You see that live before you buy. The three approvals in the agreement are on top of those, and they are apply to sell: we submit the applications for you.
How a brand gets on our open list: we check twenty of its products on the account. If at least half show "Sell this product", the brand counts as open. So some products under an open brand may still need approval.
Some aged accounts also hold approvals a new account has to qualify for from zero: Hazmat, Seller Fulfilled Prime, Amazon Renewed, gated brands. We name one only where that account's record carries it. Never as a promise about every account.
The quickest way to know if an account fits: send us the brands or product codes you care about. We check them against the account and come back with a result for each one.
What is not included:
- Inventory or live listings, unless the agreement says so.
- A different payout schedule. In general, Amazon settles seller accounts every two weeks, and it holds each order's money until seven days after delivery on every account, whatever its age.
- Ongoing management. We hand the account over and support the transfer. We do not sell on it for you.
What Does Amazon Say About Buying an Account?
Amazon's page Can I transfer my seller account? says: "Seller accounts generally are not transferable." It adds: "If the ownership of a business changes for any reason, the new owner must establish a new seller account." What we do is a full change of the account's details, which Amazon verifies again before you ever sell on it.
That check is not Amazon approving the sale.
Amazon's selling policies and seller code of conduct also sets out what is at stake on any account, bought or built:
"Violating the code of conduct or any other Amazon policies may result in actions against your account, such as cancellation of listings, suspension or forfeiture of payments, and removal of selling privileges."
Read both pages and decide with Amazon's wording in front of you. For a legal view on your own situation, ask your own lawyer. The full question is in can you transfer ownership of an Amazon seller account you bought.
What Happens When Your Details Replace the Old Owner's?
When we change an account's owner, Amazon checks the new details again: government ID, business address, bank account, email, phone, tax ID and the business point of contact. About half of our Amazon transfers clear in the 10 to 14 business day standard; the rest get an extra verification request and run 30 to 60 days.
Under the INFORM Consumers Act, a US federal law, a marketplace has to collect and verify a high-volume seller's bank, contact and tax details. We do not hide the change from Amazon. Passing that verification is the process.
What you control:
- The company inside the account. It has to be clean, never used on Amazon before, with a clean EIN. If the EIN is not in Amazon's system yet, that alone adds 3 weeks to a month. Form the company at least 30 days before you buy.
- Bank and payment details. A new bank account and new payment details.
- Hands off until delivery. Do not log in or sell before the transfer finishes. Activity before then can link the previous owner to you.
- Separation. If you already sell on Amazon, keep device, browser profile, payment details and address apart from the new account, so each account carries only its own company's verified details.
Do the Approvals Stay Open After the Transfer?
The brands written into your Deal Agreement are the ones we commit to: if one is still gated at delivery, we keep working on it with a 30 day clock from delivery, then a replacement account, then a refund. The rest of the open list is a snapshot, because Amazon and brand owners change their rules.
Amazon's FAQ says it outright: "Even if you were selling your product before, you may be subject to new restrictions". That applies to every account, old or new. So before you list under a brand, open one of its products on your account and confirm it still shows "Sell this product".
Which Route Costs More?
Each route costs something different, so there is no single answer. Getting ungated yourself costs invoices from a supplier for each brand, about a month per brand as we plan it, and the risk of a decline. Buying costs the account's purchase price, and the exact figure for an account comes with its details on the call.
| What you pay for | Get ungated yourself | Buy an aged account |
|---|---|---|
| The account | Your own, opened by you | The purchase price, on the price page and the call |
| Invoices | Bought from a supplier for each brand, before approval | Not needed for brands already open |
| Time | One month per brand, as we plan it | Open brands at handover: 10 to 14 business days, or 30 to 60 days. Agreement brands: a 30 day clock from delivery |
| A decline | "Your account does not qualify" cannot be appealed | A promised brand runs to replacement, then refund |
| Extra brands | One application per brand, and per category | Added to the account you buy, priced on the call |
Our starting prices are on the price page.

Which Should You Choose?
Get ungated yourself if you sell a few brands, have a real supplier relationship and can wait. Buy an account that is already ungated if you need many brands or categories now, have a legitimate business need for a second account, or keep hitting declines.
On a second account, Amazon's Selling on Amazon page sets the condition: "You may only maintain one Seller Central account for each region in which you sell unless you have a legitimate business need to open a second account and all of your accounts are in good standing."
This is for wholesale and arbitrage sellers who want brands open now, and for sellers with a legitimate business need for a second account and every account in good standing. Not for someone hoping an old account fixes a suspended one.

FAQ
Can I buy an ungated Amazon account for a specific brand?
Yes, if we have one in stock that lists it. If you need a brand that is apply to sell, it can go into your Deal Agreement as one of the three apply-to-sell brands we apply for on your behalf.
Why do Amazon ungating applications get declined?
Usually because a document Amazon asks for is missing or does not fit. Amazon's page asks for purchase invoices dated within 180 days, clear product photos, and brand authorization letters or safety certifications where they apply, and invoices should come from a manufacturer or distributor in your company's name. More in why Amazon keeps declining your ungating application.
Is an ungated Amazon seller account safe from suspension?
No account is, bought or built. Amazon can act on any account that breaks its policies. We cut the transfer risk with a clean company, a separated setup and support until your first sale or 30 days after delivery, whichever comes first.
Will Amazon approve any brand if I keep applying?
No. In our own ungating work, there is one group we cannot open yet: human digestibles. That means supplements and anything else a person swallows.
I have an ungated account I no longer use. Can you buy it?
Not on this site. Our sister brand, Cash For Stores, buys Amazon, Walmart and eBay accounts at cashforstores.com.
