Does Amazon Show Your Address to Buyers? The INFORM Act Answer

Yes. Amazon's seller profile page shows each seller's name and address to customers. Which sellers the INFORM Act covers, what Amazon collects but keeps, and whose address sits on an aged account.

Does Amazon Show Your Address to Buyers? The INFORM Act Answer

The Short Answer

Yes, customers can see an address. If you are starting to sell on Amazon from home and the verification screen just asked for yours, Amazon keeps a seller profile page on Amazon.com for every seller, and it shows the seller's name and address. When you buy an aged account from us, the company and address Amazon verifies are those of your own clean company, one never used on Amazon before and with a clean EIN.

The INFORM Consumers Act is a US federal law, in force since June 27, 2023. It makes online marketplaces collect, verify and in some cases show the details of their larger sellers.

Where Do Customers See a Seller's Address on Amazon?

On the seller profile page. Amazon says it has a seller profile page on Amazon.com for each seller, with their name, address, an optional customer service phone number and a link to Buyer-Seller Messaging. Amazon also says this page already meets some of the INFORM Act's requirements, so it made no changes to it.

Here is Amazon's own line, from its About the INFORM Consumers Act page:

"We have a seller profile page on Amazon.com for each seller, including their name, address, optional customer-service phone number, and a link to our Buyer-Seller Messaging chat service to ensure that customers have the best information when making shopping decisions."

Buyer-Seller Messaging is Amazon's chat channel between a customer and a seller.

There is one more place a customer can be pointed to your profile. Amazon says that when an item in an order was supplied by a different seller than the one the customer ordered from, it tells the customer in the shipping confirmation email and links the supplying seller's profile page from the order history invoice. Amazon says this mainly happens for sellers who have not opted out of FBA's virtual tracking program. Amazon's INFORM page does not say whether a product listing itself shows your address; it names only the profile page and these order messages.

Where a customer sees your details. Seller profile page - Your name, address, optional phone and a chat link.; Shipping confirmation - A note when a different seller supplied the item.; Order history invoice - A link to the supplying seller's profile page.

Which Sellers Does the INFORM Act Cover?

Under the INFORM Act (15 U.S.C. 45f), a high-volume third-party seller is one with at least 200 sales of new or unused consumer goods plus 5,000 dollars or more in gross revenue, in any continuous 12 months within the last 24. The duty to disclose seller details to customers attaches at 20,000 dollars or more in annual gross revenue on that marketplace.

These lines set what the law requires of Amazon. Amazon's profile page, by its own description, carries a name and address "for each seller", so staying under either line does not keep your address off the page.

The law also sets the clock. Once a seller qualifies, the marketplace has 10 days to collect the information and 10 days after that to verify it. If a seller does not supply it, the marketplace sends a notice, and after a further 10 days it must suspend the seller's future sales until the seller complies.

What Amazon Collects Versus What Customers See

Amazon collects far more than it shows. Its INFORM page lists seven things it must collect and verify. Only a few of them appear on the profile page a customer opens.

DetailAmazon collects and verifies itOn the seller profile page
Your nameYesYes
A business addressYesAn address is shown
A working phone numberYesAn optional customer service number
A working email addressYesNot listed
A government-issued IDYesNot listed
Bank account informationYesNot listed
A tax identification numberYesNot listed

Amazon also says this information must be in the business name of the seller, or of a person legally authorized to act for the seller. It verifies the details again any time they change, and asks you to certify them at least once a year.

The FTC adds one point that matters if you worry about the rest of your file. Its INFORM Act guidance says data collected only to comply with the Act "may not be used for any other purpose unless required by law."

Can You Keep a Home Address Off Your Seller Profile?

Amazon's INFORM page says it verifies a business address and that your seller profile shows an address. It does not say which of your addresses appears, and it does not describe a setting that hides an address or shows only part of it. So the address you verify is the one to plan around.

The address question is really a company question: which company sits inside the account, and which address that company uses. If you have no company yet, we can open one for you: our portal asks for the state of registration and your virtual address verification preference, and the legal and tax side of that choice is for your accountant.

If you want Amazon's current wording, read the About the INFORM Consumers Act page in Seller Central before you upload anything.

Whose Address Is on an Aged Account You Buy?

Yours, through your company. When ownership changes, the INFORM Act has Amazon check the details again: ID, business address, bank details, email, phone, tax ID and point of contact. The previous owner's details come off the account and your company's go on. We clean the old addresses, cards and subscriptions off. You check every return and shipping setting in Seller Central, or we make the change for you.

Buyers ask us about this before they sign. The company inside the account is the one Amazon checks, because Amazon checks the tax ID internally. An EIN is the US federal tax ID of a business.

The company that pays us can be a different one. We have had buyers pay from one company and put a second company inside the account. What matters is the one inside.

How the address on an aged account becomes yours. Your company - Clean, never used on Amazon, with a clean EIN.; Deal Agreement - Signed before any money moves.; Amazon re-verifies - ID, business address, bank, email, phone, tax ID, contact.; Old details removed - Addresses, cards and subscriptions cleaned.; Handover - 10 to 14 business days standard, 30 to 60 with extra checks.

Two practical points from our transfers:

  • Return addresses lag. Customer returns can keep going to the previous owner's address until every return and shipping setting is changed. We ask you to check each one in Seller Central, or we make the change for you. Amazon has been seen to put an old return address back on its own, so if parcels go astray, the settings need a second look.
  • Verification can take longer. About half of Amazon transfers get an extra verification request, and those run 30 to 60 days instead of the standard 10 to 14 business days.

What you get for going through this is an account that already carries its history and approvals. Every account we sell comes with three brand approvals, apply to sell only, named in the Deal Agreement. Each account's own approvals are shown live before you buy. The full picture is on our aged Amazon accounts for sale page, and the steps from first call to delivery are on how buying works.

FAQ

Does Amazon show my address to customers under the INFORM Act?

Yes. Amazon keeps a seller profile page on Amazon.com with your name and an address. The verified details behind it, such as your ID, bank account and tax number, are not on that page.

Is my home address public as an Amazon seller?

It can be, if your home address is the one you verify, because Amazon's INFORM page does not say which of your addresses the profile shows. The address you verify is the one to plan around. The page does not describe a way to hide an address, so check the Seller Central page for your case.

Does Amazon show my phone number or email?

Amazon lists an optional customer service phone number on the profile page. The working email Amazon verifies is not among the details Amazon lists for the profile page.

What happens if I skip INFORM Act verification?

Amazon says an account can be deactivated if the verification or yearly certification is not completed. Amazon says reactivation takes 48 to 72 hours after both are done, through "Reactivate your account" on the Account health page.

Will the previous owner's address stay on an account I buy?

Your company's verified details replace the previous owner's. The return address is a separate setting to check after handover, and we cannot promise that no stray parcel reaches the old address.

I want to sell my account instead. Who buys it?

We sell accounts; we do not buy them. Our sister brand Cash For Stores buys Amazon, Walmart and eBay seller accounts.
